The Health Care Facts the Republicans think is so terrible they just have to stop these benefits:

Immediate benefits this year -
Businesses with fewer than 50 employees will get tax credits covering 35 percent of their health care premiums, increasing to 50 percent by 2014.

Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill.

Lifetime limits on benefits and restrictive annual limits will be prohibited.

New plans must provide coverage for preventive services without co-pays. Existing plans must comply by 2018.

Seniors will receive a rebate to reduce drug costs not yet covered under Medicare.

Young people will be allowed coverage under their parents' plan until the age of 26.

Early retirees will receive help to reduce premium costs.

Children will be protected against discrimination on the basis of medical history.

Uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions can join a special high-risk pool to get the coverage they need, starting in just 90 days.

New plans will be required to implement an appeals process for coverage determinations and claims.

All Americans will benefit from significant new investments to train primary care doctors, nurses, and public health professionals, and the creation of state-level consumer assistance programs to help all patients understand and defend our new rights.

Many other benefits start in 2011 and later. A good report on the timeline is at
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/03/23/h.../?hpt=Sbin

Here are the tax effects which Republicans want you to think is the destruction of American capitalism (idiotic):

Those with joint wages they would pay an extra 0.9% on wages that exceed $250,000 starting in 2013.

On investment income some people might pay as much as an additional 3.8% on investment income if joint income exceeds $250,000 starting 2013. I say "may" because the tax would apply to whichever is less -- your investment income or the amount that your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) exceeds $250,000. Say you have $50,000 more in modified AGI than the threshold. If your investment income exceeds that amount, you would only owe the 3.8% tax on $50,000.

in 2010 the maximum amount of tax on long-term capital gain is 15%. Coupled with the scheduled expiration of President Bush's tax cuts at the end of 2010, the Medicare tax would bring the top tax rate on capital gains to 23.8 percent in 2013 for those with over $250,000 of income.

The $250,000 is for couples, it is $200,000 for singles.

Wise comment about higher taxes for Health Care Benefits
"I think the majority of folks will continue as always to try to do as well for themselves as they can, and at least quietly consider themselves lucky to be paying taxes on income over $250k, unlike 98.5% of their fellow citizens who would love to have such problems as slightly higher taxes."

"I was lucky enough to spend a couple decades in the top tax bracket during my working life (the first time, very early on, when Fed rates were 50-70%). I never resented it because 1) I was lucky to have the income and 2) taxes are one of the costs of a civilized society."

Warren Buffett March 2010 letter:
One of the most important things that Buffett said was in his final paragraph – and he says this all the time. He said that he was lucky to be born in America and lucky to be born with a “business gene” that is rewarded disproportionately to those who have contributed much more to society. Buffett frequently says that we won the lottery when we were born in the US – and that’s the truth. In addition, when you compare the work of business or investing relative to doctors or people who have provided us with infrastructure, it’s incredibly disproportionate to think about compensation.

Regarding Mandatory Coverage starting in 2014
You can not get costs down unless you also include young healthy people even with them paying very low premiums. You can't have affordable costs if only the old and sick choose to pay for insurance especially if insurance companies now HAVE to cover them.

The biggest problem is there is nothing in the bill to directly curb costs without a public option. The insurance companies will do all they can to justify continued higher premiums, profits and their millions of dollars to their executives. The only protection is that the insurance companies are regulated by the States which have to approve premium increases but seems quite easy to justify.

Republicans gone wild.
Crazy amendments wasting days of Senate time just to take away just passed health care benefits for all of us. The Republicans doing all the can to have any amendment approved and therefore have to go back to the House and restart the fight to get all Americans health care like in most of the rest of the world.

Reaction to the Coburn "Viagra" Amendment:
If Senator Coburn believes that federal law should not allow coverage of erectile dysfunction medications to folks whose impulses have led them to break the law, then surely he would agree that anyone who has admitted or been found guilty of involvement with prostitution should not be covered either. Senator Coburn's amendment is simply a partisan ploy aimed at neutering health care reform. In which case, our only suggestion to Senator Coburn is to stop playing games and get serious.
